The rapture is when all Christians are taken to heaven before The Great Tribulation. The Great Tribulation is when the age of grace ends, and God pours out judgment on the world. You may have heard that "no one knows the day or the hour," and while that is true, if you check the context, you will find that it isn't referring to the rapture, but rather Christ's second coming. Those who look for Jesus' appearing are promised a crown of righteousness, which indicates doing so is important. My heart's desire is to be with Jesus in person, and I can hardly wait - Jesus is awesome!

2 Timothy 4:7-8
7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which The Lord, the righteous judge, will give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

Matthew 24:25-36
25 "Behold, I have told you before.
26 Therefore if they will say to you, 'Behold, he is in the desert;' go not forth; 'Behold, he is in the secret chambers;' believe it not.
27 For as the lightning comes out of the east, and shines even to the west; so will also the coming of The Son of Man be.
28 For wherever the carcass is, there will the eagles be gathered together.
29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days will the sun be darkened, and the moon will not give her light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken:
30 And then will appear the sign of The Son of Man in heaven; and then will all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they will see The Son of Man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
31 And he will send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; when his branch is yet tender, and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near:
33 So likewise you, when you will see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.
34 Verily I say unto you, 'This generation will not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.'
35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.
36 But of that day and hour knows no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only." - Jesus

Isaiah 66:7-9
7 Before she travailed, she brought forth; before her pain came, she was delivered of a man child.
8 Who has heard such a thing? Who has seen such things? Will the earth be made to bring forth in one day, or will a nation be born at once? For as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children.
9 "Will I bring to the birth, and not cause to bring forth?" says The Lord. "Will I cause to bring forth, and shut the womb?" says your God.

Revelation 12:1-5
1 And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars:
2 And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered.
3 And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.
4 And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth; and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.
5 And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron; and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.

Micah 5:2-3
2 But you, Bethlehem Ephratah, though you be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of you will he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.
3 Therefore will he give them up, until the time that she which travails has brought forth; then the remnant of his brethren will return unto the children of Israel.

1 Thessalonians 5:1-11
5 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I write unto you.
2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of The Lord so comes as a thief in the night.
3 For when they will say, "Peace and safety;" then sudden destruction comes upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they will not escape.
4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
5 You are all the children of light, and the children of the day; we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.
7 For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.
8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.
9 For God has not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,
10 Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.
11 Therefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also you do.

1 Corinthians 15:52
In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we will be changed.

2 Peter 3:9-10
9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein will be burned up.

The man child is the reborn church, with Jesus as the head. The child is "caught up" to God's throne, to escape danger. Jesus, having every principality and power under him, never needed to escape danger. The word for "caught up" here is from the same greek word for rapture. After that comes The Great Tribulation, AKA the time of Jacob's trouble, "but they that wait upon The Lord will renew their strength; they will mount up with wings as eagles; they will run, and not be weary; and they will walk, and not faint" - Isaiah 40:31.

God isn't willing that any should perish. So if you aren't yet, get saved to escape God's coming judgment of those who reject him, and/or worse, going to hell.
